900 million children live in multidimensional poverty, without adequate water, food, shelter, safety, or healthcare.

50% of children in Sub-saharan Africa live in households surviving on less than $3 a day. 412 million of the world's children (20%) live in extreme poverty.

Child poverty is not limited to developing economies. In 37 high-income countries, 50 million children (23% of their child population) live in poverty. In the United States, 20% of children live in poverty.

Poverty during childhood equals lifelong issues - poor health, shorter lifespans, and reduced opportunities that transmit poverty to the next generation.

Progress in ending poverty has stalled due to rising conflict, climate change, and global funding cuts.

We’ve learned that nothing exists outside of a system, and failing to step far enough back to understand the factors surrounding the situation immediately in front of us is the same as putting gas in a car that lacks an engine and expecting it to run.

Strengthening and Empowering Families and Communities to Help Children

Our mission directive is to strengthen and empower families. Family strengthening is the most effective intervention to improve the care and wellbeing of children. HCW aligns with local leaders who apply that philosophy to their work.
