The Problem is Worldwide

900 million children live in multidimensional poverty, without adequate water, food, shelter, safety, or healthcare.

50% of children in Sub-saharan Africa live in households surviving on less than $3 a day. 412 million of the world's children (20%) live in extreme poverty.

Poverty during childhood equals lifelong issues - poor health, shorter lifespans, and reduced opportunities that transmit poverty to the next generation.

Progress in ending poverty has stalled due to rising conflict, climate change, and global funding cuts.

Our Work in North America

In North America we are building on our experiences in Africa, and the deep collaboration that is embedded in our corporate DNA.

We are partnering with Global North organizations and networks, churches, individuals, governments, universities, and other NGOs to bring abundant resources to meet deep needs.

We are working with a framework of alliance and empowerment that we have embraced as best practice, networking and collaborating to help children everywhere, in every way we can.

NORTH AMERICAN PROGRAMS

HCW’s current efforts in North America are a miniscule portion of our annual budget for allied program services – around 3%.

This slight bit of funding is coupled with the impact of our support through HCW global networks and broad communications channels. Our messaging creates a ripple effect of significantly raising the ability of locally led programs to implement sustainable life-saving measures, raising awareness of the issues and the pockets of poverty that exist in North American countries, and assisting our efforts to increase understanding of why we focus on orphan-prevention strategies.

Our work in North America is based in our understanding of systems theory. While our operations are based in North America, the work on that continent is broader than administration and marketing. The value of investing in our charitable endeavors is our connectedness. When we share crucial information about poverty, disease, and conditions impacting children on this continent, and demonstrate the value of the work of North American NGOs in those fields, we generate donors, forge strong connections, and increase support for both sides of the alliance.

The ripple effect goes through all of our efforts, anywhere in the world, and increases our ability to reach children in need and the communities in which they live, including communities and children we are already serving. It is all interconnected. When you improve care in Africa, it benefits the wellbeing of a child in North America, and vice versa.

The support we provide to local programs in North America does not divert any of the donor dollars that were intended for other mission allies. Just as support that is designated for North American allies and programs can not be diverted to programs in other parts of the world.
