Why We Exist

Globally, 900 million children experience multidimensional poverty, meaning they lack basic necessities like food, shelter, or healthcare.

412 million children live in households surviving on less than $3 a day.

Why Worldwide? Child poverty is not limited to developing economies. Twenty percent of the world's children are trapped in extreme poverty. In 37 high-income countries, 50 million children (23% of the child population in those nations) live in poverty. In the United States, more than 20% of children experience poverty.

Poverty during childhood leads to lifelong consequences, including poor health, shorter lifespans, and reduced opportunities that transmit poverty to the next generation.

Sub-saharan Africa is the epicenter of the multidimensional poverty crisis, home to three-quarters of all children living in extreme poverty. More than half of the children in Sub-saharan Africa live on less than $3 a day.

Progress in ending poverty has stalled due to rising conflict, climate change, and global funding cuts.
