Dr. Aruna Stevens receives scholarship for advanced medical degree

Dr. Aruna Stevens, the Chief Medical Officer at Mercy UMC Hospital in Sierra Leone, has been granted educational leave by UMC SLAC to pursue an advanced degree in medicine at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. He was scholar shipped by Tulane to cover 100% of tuition and fees. UMC SLAC granted leave with partial pay, with agreement that Dr. Stevens would return to Mercy and serve for the same amount of time as the educational leave. HCW donors contributed to Dr. Stevens’ ability to take advantage of this program by donating to the capacity-building fund established by HCW to provide educational supports to dedicated staff in service to allied programs.

Aruna was one of the first residents at the Child Reintegration Centre.
